Special Projects: If It Can Be Drawn, We Can Build It
Every shop has a list of things it will not touch. Ours is short. Gun racks, timber entrance signs, foot bridges, docks, wishing wells, playhouses, even caskets built with the care the moment deserves. The one-of-a-kind work is some of our favorite, because it is the truest test of a shop.
The Work Nobody Else Will Quote
Most contractors specialize until anything unusual gets a no. We went the other direction. If a project is made of wood and matters to you, we will look at it seriously, draw it, and give you a real number. That has led to some of the most interesting work in the shop's history.
Recent projects include timber-framed entrance signs for ranches and subdivisions, a pavilion overlooking the valley, docks and pond platforms, built-in gun display cases, and custom entry frames. The common thread is that none of them came out of a catalog.
Some requests are personal in a way regular work is not. We have built caskets for families who wanted the last piece of woodworking in someone's life to be made by hand, with respect. It is quiet work and we are honored to do it.
From Sketch to Standing
A special project usually starts with a photo, a sketch on paper, or just a description of the thing you have in mind. We turn that into a drawing with real dimensions, talk through materials and how the piece will live, and give you a firm quote before we cut anything.
Structural pieces like bridges, pavilions, and signs get engineered for their site, footings, snow load, wind, and the ground they stand on. Furniture-scale pieces get the same joinery standards as our cabinetry. Either way, the piece is built to outlast the novelty.
If the project needs trades we do not carry, like concrete or excavation, we coordinate that work so you are not managing three contractors for one wishing well.
Built Where We Can, Assembled Where It Lands
Most special projects are built in the Rigby shop and assembled on site, which keeps quality high and your disruption short. Large site-built pieces, like a pavilion or a long dock, are cut and fitted in the shop as far as possible, then raised on location.
We take these projects across our whole service area, from Rigby and Idaho Falls to Island Park, Teton Valley, Jackson Hole, and Star Valley. Distance has not stopped a good project yet.

- Will you really build anything?
- If it is made of wood and can be drawn, we will give it honest consideration and a straight answer. The rare no comes when a project needs a specialty outside wood, and in that case we will point you toward the right trade rather than experiment on your dime.
- How do you price a one-of-a-kind project?
- We draw the piece first, settle materials and any site work, and then quote it firm, the same as a kitchen. Because there is no catalog price for a custom bridge or a timber sign, the drawing step is what makes the number real, and you approve it before anything is built.
- Can you build a memorial or casket on short notice?
- We understand these projects run on a timeline nobody chooses. Contact us directly by phone and we will tell you honestly what we can do in the time available, and we treat that work with the priority and privacy it deserves.
